RHS and Eastland Fairfield Performing Arts are Workin' 9 to 5

9 to 5 the Musical

Reynoldsburg High School and Eastland Fairfield Peforming Arts students debuted Dolly Parton's 9 to 5: The Musical for their Spring performance.

Ms. Dunn, director and teacher chose the Dolly Parton musical, 9 TO 5!, for the Eastland Performing Arts spring musical at Reynoldsburg High School L.A. Campus, because of the many talented female singers here at RHS.  "It is often hard to find a musical with four female leading roles and this one was the ticket," she said.  "We chose the show in early October before female empowerment was a trending topic in the news and the students were very excited about the  coincidence."  The music and dancing were challenging and demanding and all the performers have rose to the occasion to make this an exceptional theatrical event.

Michele Schmitz who is playing one of the leads said that β€œit has been very rewarding to play Judy Bernly – she is a unique character.  As a high school student who will be majoring in musical theatre in college, I love the challenge of combining a great role with terrific music and dancing.”

9 to 5 is based on the 1980 movie of the same name, and features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton. It centers on the downtrodden working lives of three women, Violet, Judy, and Doralee. They all work at Consolidated Industries, which is presided over by the sexist, lecherous, and pompous, Franklin Hart. During the course of the play, Violet, Judy, and Doralee run the office to great effect. They introduce childcare, hour-long lunch breaks, rehab programs, and much more to benefit the staff at Consolidated, which causes the Chairman to praise the company's increased productivity and appoints Violet to the first female CEO.
