Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. In addition to increased flexibility, increasing muscle tone and core strength, the mental benefits to yoga are also important. Known for its ability to relieve stress, promote relaxation and decrease anxiety, yoga is excellent practice for any age and any skill level.
Through our partnership at BalletMet which offers different dance classes at Reynoldsburg High School, and in our effort to focus on health and wellness, Waggoner Road Junior High School introduced a yoga, movement and meditation class to students this year.
In the class, students focus on their breathing, and try to leave the "noise" of every day life outside of their practice during their class. They practice breathing in counts of four, moving their body to stretch and increase flexibility and more.
Two periods of yoga are offered at WRJHS and the classes are popular! Students enjoy using yoga as a way to start their school day.
