Dear
RCS Parents, Staff and Students,
I wanted to provide an update on the “Freshman Experience” concept that we look forward to constructing in preparation for our 2019-2020 school year. The creation of a “Freshman Experience” where all rising ninth graders in 2019-20 would participate will ensure they are even better prepared for success for the rest of their high school careers leading to productive college and career experiences following graduation.
Similar to the Academy Experience video, we created a “Freshman Experience” video to highlight some of the goals we are trying to achieve to address the issues incoming ninth graders experience while improving our overall District culture.
The
aim of a cohesive program for our freshmen is to be very sensitive to
social/emotional needs and address the need for a supportive system that will
alleviate concerns about stress, anxiety, peer pressure, expectations, and
other factors that our students currently experience every day. Finally, it
would work to help to expose all of our students to the academic and career
options that they have in front of them while reducing the feelings that some
have about how soon student choices are currently being made.
I
hope you enjoy this video, and that it provides additional information on how
we are working to move our District forward. As we have shared, the intent is
to implement this program in the 2019-2020 school year.
Sincerely,
Melvin J. Brown
Superintendent
Reynoldsburg City Schools
