Fatal Car Crash Re-Enactment

Fatal Car Crash Re-Enactment

Reynoldsburg’s Summit High School hosts the Prom Crash Car Program, sponsored by Liberty Mutual, on May 6, 2016. The event will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. on the Summit Campus. Juniors and seniors from both high school campuses will attend the event.

This program is a re-enactment of a fatal car crash to make teen drivers aware of their responsibilities when it comes to driving, especially during prom season. Students will attend an organized presentation in the Performing Arts Center from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. followed by the mock crash site outside until 11 a.m. Actors will depict the crash scene aftermath, while police and fire trucks respond to the scene.

The number of teen driving crashes and fatalities usually peak during the spring. In fact, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 16-19 year olds. In 2013, 2,163 teens in the United States ages 16–19 were killed and 243,243 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes. That means that six teens ages 16–19 died every day from motor vehicle injuries according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

To support our efforts to keep teens safe behind the wheel, we invite everyone to visit the teen driving website at www.libertymutual.com/teendriving, for valuable tips and resources, such as:

- Online Driving Courses – Help prepare for the road

- Parent/Teen Driving Contract – A driving contract that helps establish rules, responsibilities and consequences

- Teen Research – A study commissioned by Liberty Mutual and SADD that seeks teens points of view related to road safety to best understand the decisions they face and how and why they make decisions.

Livingston students will be transported to Summit Campus and will be transported back to their own campus in time for lunch.
