Summer Meals Program: More Than 200 Students Served Daily

All Reynoldsburg school children age 18 and younger are invited to show up and have free meals at Reynoldsburg High School's Livingston Avenue campus for the Summer Meals Program.

No enrollment is necessary, Food Service Director Wendy Novotni said.

The lunch program runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays until July 29; participants should use the east entrance of of the high school at 6699 E. Livingston Ave.

"We are feeding about 250 to 275 kids each day," Novotni said. "We used to deliver meals to separate sites, but now the program is all at the Livingston high school campus.

"We have some volunteers playing games with the kids at lunch, too, along with some special activities, such as bringing in Smoothie King and Grandma's Pizza one time a month," she said.

She said the district receives federal funds for the summer meals program, which the district has conducted for at least the past nine or 10 years.

Superintendent Tina Thomas-Manning said many Reynoldsburg families rely on district assistance to feed children throughout the school year.

"This need not change when school is out of session," she said. "The summer program allows us to serve free breakfast and lunch to any student in our community.

"It also allows us to feed our students who are participating in summer school and summer camps, which makes attending these activities convenient for our students and families."
