Preventive Care Campaign Awards Fitbits

By scheduling an annual physical with your doctor, you’re not only taking charge of your health, you also may win a popular fitness watch to track your physical activity.

Reynoldsburg City Schools (RCS) kicked off its first Preventative Care Campaign at the start of the school year to motivate the district’s staff to get a yearly physical.

Amanda Wilson, human resources for RCS, was involved in the setting up the campaign and said that it’s important for everyone to know their numbers (blood pressure, heart and respiration rates) and maintain a relationship with their primary care physician.

“Regular check-ups are important to receive individualized counseling based on your family health history and lifestyle,” said Wilson. “These evaluations could help your doctor find problems sooner and reinforce healthy behavior.”

This is a chance to mention any concerns about your health. Your doctor also may quiz you about lifestyle behaviors such as, diet, exercise, smoking and family medical history.

“We encourage everyone to come prepared with questions so your doctor can help counsel you on how to manage medical conditions that may enhance your quality of life,” said Jennifer Dixon, who was recently hired as the director of human resources for the district.

To enter this campaign you should make an appointment with your primary care doctor for a physical before the end of the calendar year. This visit is covered 100% by Medical Mutual of Ohio and should be coded by your doctor as preventative.

The data will be collected after your physical and you will automatically be entered into a drawing for the chance to win a Fitbit in December and then again in January. Winners will be contacted via email and the Fitbits can be picked up at central office – 7244 E. Main St., during business hours 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

You have already been entered into the drawing if you had a physical exam in 2015.

The district will be awarding a total of 100 Fitbits to RCS staff. The first two drawings were held in October and November.

Dixon is working on another preventative care campaign for 2016. Look for details in the monthly WellnessWorks newsletter.
