Health Driving Force Behind Curriculum Pathways

Dissecting a sheep's brain or watching an autopsy may not be everyone's dream, but Reynoldsburg High School students interested in medical careers have these opportunities and more at HS(2) STEM Academy.

Academy Leader Dawn McCloud described existing and new career pathways at HS(2) -- which stands for health sciences and human services -- at a recent Academy Night for district eighth-graders.

"The ideal HS(2) student is one who has interest in helping others," she said. "We learn how we can help and advocate for others through a health sciences and human services scope.

"Our students are future doctors, nurses, physician assistants, nurse's aides, medical billing and coding specialists, biotech engineers, athletic trainers, exercise specialists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, radiologists, health and human advocates -- you name it," she said. "What students learn at HS(2) is an incredible foundation to begin future plans."

The academy uses a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) approach to learning, while keeping "health" as its driving force.
