Message from Mrs. Drury

Dear Parents,

I hope you have been able to get out and enjoy these unseasonably warm days of October! I don’t think they are going to last long. This month is a busy one for Summit, and I want to send a reminder of some of the important events occurring.

Our PTO Pie Sale began October 17 and will run through October 26th. These are the same pies sold by Market Day that we have sold in the past but were missing last year. In the past, people have been very excited about our pie sale and it is back! The pies are delicious and will be here in time for the holidays. We have set a school goal of 1500 pies and a per student goal of 3 pies. Please have your order forms and monies turned in by the 26th. Pies will be delivered to the school on November 16th. I am told that the top 10 sellers will get to silly string me in front of our students. I have danced the Whip and Nay Nay and even kissed a pig so being silly stringed sounds like a good option! Our top classroom at each grade level will have a PJ and movie party and our overall top seller for the building will get a tablet! Can’t wait to see who earns the tablet and who is going to find great pleasure in covering me with Silly String!

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our Parent Teacher Conferences over the next two weeks. The dates of conferences are October 20th and October 26th. I hope you have had a chance to schedule time with your child’s teacher. These meetings are very important in our quest to work as a team to ensure your child’s academic and behavioral success. It takes a village and you are by far the most important part of the village for your child!

You should have received paperwork on our October 28th Fall STEMFest and Parade. This is an opportunity to collaborate with your child to design and build a STEM themed costume for this day. The design challenge has been sent home and shares the constraints that must be met in order for a child to wear a costume. PLEASE be sure your child designs a costume that meets the constraints or they will not be permitted to wear it. Student will share their costumes with Summit High School by parading through their halls at 1:30. Our high school students love seeing our students and are impressed with their costumes. Students will return to our building for their end of the day parties. If you have any questions concerning the class party or costumes please contact your child’s teacher as they are each organizing their own event. Parents are welcome to join us at 1:20 pm and may walk with us in the high school if they wish.

A quick note about Pokemon Cards. The Pokemon cards have suddenly become quite popular again but have become a disruption to our learning process at school and on the bus. Therefore, I have told the students that Pokemon cards are not allowed at school or on the bus. Please remind your child that they must be kept at home. Thank you for your help.

Thank you to those who attended our Literacy Night, our PTO meetings and our PTO fundraisers. We thank you for your support as well as your work in our building. Your partnership is important to the success of our school.

Please remember that grade cards come home on Thursday, October 26th or at conferences if you have one scheduled. Picture retakes are Thursday, October 27th. First grade is holding their first Exhibition of Learning on Friday, October 28th – hope to see many of you there.

In closing, I share a quote by Helen Keller that was on a card I received from a staff member this week: “Life is either a daring adventure… or nothing!” I hope you will engage in a daring adventure this season! There is no doubt it will be worth it!

Have a phenomenal week!
