Lady Raiders are a Force to be Reckoned with This Season!
The Lady Raiders Basketball Team
When Assistant Superintendent Jocelyn Cosgrave goes to basketball games, Coach Purtell always knows she is there. "She comes in with her pom poms and lucky gold shoes and is one of our biggest cheerleaders," he said. So, after a huge win against Pickerington Central, we caught up with the team and Coach Purtell as they practice for the final games of the season, including a game honoring the seniors who will be graduating this year.

The team, comprised of 15 JV and Varsity players, have their sights set on being League Champions and have a record of 15-5 at press time.

"These girls practice every day, except Saturday," said Coach Purtell. "They're good kids, very respectful and caring of eachother and have a really strong bond."

eSTEM Senior Mackenzie Davis echoed her coach's thoughts saying, "We're all hard workers, and all fighting for the same goal (to win) so we play really well together as a team."

Davis, who is a point gaurd and has been on the team all four years hopes to join the Air Force and earn her PhD in psychology.  Her advice to new members of the team? Take your time easing into it. "Freshman year you have to keep up with school, a hard, long playing season and it can be hard learning to balance that. Get plenty of sleep, drink a lot of water and don't try to be perfect."

Coach Purtell is in his 16th year at Reynoldsburg City Schools and loves coaching. "Last year, we made it to the Sweet 16, and there are eight games between us and the State Title," he said. "Our kids have great opportunities at Reynoldsburg, with our excellent gyms and facilities. It's exciting to watch them progress."

Coach Purtell is also hopes to help some of the seniors earn scholarships. Check out the upcoming schedule of games, and cheer on your Lady Raiders. If you see Dr. Cosgrave and her pom poms, make sure to say hello to her as well!
