As the whole school gathered in the gym at STEM Middle at Baldwin Road, the band played and there was an air of excitement, but no one really knew what was happening. The students all thought they were celebrating the end of testing, but the staff had other ideas.
It turns out that Mr. Niedermeyer was awarded Teacher of the Year by Columbus Parent Magazine! The whole school erupted in applause as students and teachers read what Mr. Niedermeyer meant to them- not only through teaching, but by being a role model and mentor.
Every year, Columbus Parent Magazine solicits teacher nominations for the elementary, middle and high school levels. The submissions are parent, teacher or student based and then the field is narrowed down for everyone to vote. Mr. Niedermeyer won the middle school level honor this year and Columbus Parent Magazine, the Columbus Dispatch and This Week News was on hand to cover the story.
The article with all three teachers will run in the June issue of Columbus Parent Magazine, but we were so excited to celebrate Mr. Niedermeyer's accomplishment with the whole school!
