HMES Principal is Ready to Earn Her Stripes!
HMES Principal, Ms. WeeksTigers are known for their stripes, and Herbert Mills Elementary School's new Principal, Ms. Weeks, is ready to let hers show. Her third year in the District, previously an instructional coach, Ms. Weeks knew that the principal position at HMES was a big job. A STEM-designated school, Herbert Mills is known for its innovation, out-side-the-box thinking and of course, its students.

"STEM is my passion, and the Principal role was a coveted position," said Ms. Weeks. "I'm still finding my way, but the best thing about Herbert Mills is our kids and families, and our amazingly committed staff. They've jumped in to help in more ways than I thought possible."

This year, Ms. Weeks wants to focus on HMES making a global impact. "I want there to be a humanities focus for the school," she said. "We're going to teach global cultures and develop quality lessons and advertise STEM around the world."

How? One of the platforms HMES is adapting this year is the Pen Pal Schools Program, where students will be matched with their peers in 2nd through 4th grade from countries around the world. "Our kids will use math and science to fix real-world problems," Ms. Weeks explains. "For example, the squirrels are eating the buckeyes from our trees. Our students and their pen pals will come up with a solution to prevent the squirrels from eating the buckeyes without harming the squirrels themselves."

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Weeks to the HMES family with a huge Mills Tiger Roar!
