BRJHS ToyDrive Benefits 10TV & Salvation Army
Mykel, Angela, Rich, Jamiona and PJ with their donated toys! One morning when 6th grader Mykel was watching TV, he saw a promo for Channel 10's Toy Drive and brought the idea of the National Junior Honor Society at STEM Middle hosting a drive of their own at Baldwin Road to his teacher. Together with 8th graders PJ and Jamiona, they organized a toy drive competition between the grades where all toys would go to 10TV's toy drive with the Salvation Army.

Over two weeks, 148 toys were collected, and while the 8th grade was leading for a while, the 6th grade came in first with the most toys donated, earning a "dress down" incentive where they don't have to dress according to the dress code ("while still remaining appropriate," PJ said.)

10TV's Angela Pace came out to Baldwin Road to interview the trio and collect the toys. It took five people two trips to pack her car to the brim.

"I'm an official toy truck," Ms. Pace joked.

"It feels good, like we're making a difference," PJ told Ms. Pace during his interview.

On her way out, Ms. Pace challenged Mykel to collect 200 toys next year, as PJ and Jamiona will be in high school, passing him the NJHS reins. She also commended the three students on their maturity and leadership skills at such an early point in their school career.
