Lady Raider is First D1 Volleyball Scholar for RHS in 8 Years!
Alexys and her parents on signing day
It was an emotional day for eSTEM Senior Alexys Mann and her family as she signed to play volleyball for Western Carolina University. Her parents, friends, family and members of the RHS Volleyball team and Athletic Department were on hand to watch the first Lady Raider in at least eight years sign on to play D1 Volleyball on an athletic scholarship.

Coach Davis said Alexys was Captain of the team for a reason. "She is an impressive four-year starter," he said. "She is always very disciplined and consistent."

Alexys' mother and father were brimming with pride as she signed her contract, and her father got choked up when he tried to say a few words thanking everyone who came out to support her.

Alexys will graduate the eSTEM Academy in December and start classes at WCU in January where she plans to study biology and eventually become an OBGYN. "I am ready to get a head start on my classes," she said.

Alexys is an outside hitter and middle blocker for the team. When asked what she loves so much about volleyball, Alexys said, "I like the competitiveness of the sport and how we as a team compete towards one goal."
