Dear Parents,

It was a pleasure seeing all of you again at conferences!  If you were unable to make it due to the rescheduled time, please let me know.  I have times available before and after school.

Each second grader is reading a chapter book at their level in their reading group.  This nine weeks we are focusing on comparing and contrasting people and texts.  We are also learning how to retell a story in our words.

The boys and girls are beginning a unit on measurement.  We have been estimating distances and then measuring them with a ruler and/or yardstick.  The students will need to be familiar with the following units: centimeters, meters,  inches, feet, yards, hours, half-hours, quarter-hours and minutes.

If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to drop me an email.

                                           Sincerely,

                                           Mrs.  Hosste

Homework Packets

Homework packets are handed out to the students on Monday and are to be completed and returned to school on Friday.  The purpose of putting the weekly homework assignments in a packet is to afford students and parents some flexibility in completing the homework.  I realize that the boys and girls are busy with activities in the evening and this should give them some freedom to spend less time on homework tasks on evenings that are already busy.  Math homework will still be given out on an almost nightly basis as that is what our math program suggests.  Therefore, there may be an occassional evening your child does not bring home a math practice page.

Book-It Reading Log

March is the last month for Book-It!  I am excited to reward so many spectacular second graders for their dedication to the assignment.  Each student that returned their Book-It EVERY month will be in for a special surprise.  Proud of you!
