- Who was involved in the plan to make up hours?
Members of the District Calendar Committee, which includes representatives from Reynoldsburg Education Association, Reynoldsburg School Support Association, Board of Education members, and the District’s Senior Leadership Team. Any changes to the District’s calendar during the school year require the convening of the committee. An emergency calendar committee meeting occurred on January 28, 2026.
- Why are you adding 10 minutes per day?
To make up for the missed days, we made the following adjustments:
February 16, 2026, will now be an instructional day.
In addition, ten minutes will be added to the middle school and high school day. These additional minutes will allow us to make up 2 instructional days (or 12 hours) without adding extra days to the end of the school year or considering other options, like Saturday school.
- Middle school: 10 minutes x 79 days = 790 minutes or 13.166 hours
- Grades 9-11: 10 minutes x 79 days = 790 minutes or 13.166 hours
- Seniors (grade 12): 10 minutes x 77 days = 770 minutes or 12.833 hours
Seniors' last day of school is May 26, 2026; Students in grades 6-11's last day of school is May 28.
- Is there an online makeup option for the lost instructional time?
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce does provide an online learning option. It is not a requirement. The deadline to submit a plan was August 1, 2025. Reynoldsburg City Schools did not meet the submission deadline.
Moving forward the the District will:
- Confirm with ODEW the requirements and submission dates for the online learning plan in June.
- In collaboration with REA and RSSA, consider how to address the number of instructional hours; any changes would have to be agreed upon and approved by the BOE.
- The calendar committee will review and make recommendations to modify the District calendar.
- What other options were considered?
- March 13 and April 6 may be used if we have additional school closures.
- April 3 is considered by some staff to be a religious holiday and would require our Association's collaboration.
- Adding days to the end of the year.
- Taking days from Spring Break (many families have already made travel plans)
- Saturday School
