RCS Online and RCS Virtual Academy Update (August 3, 2020)

August 3, 2020

Dear Reynoldsburg City Schools Staff and Families,

Last week, we sent out several updates regarding our return to school. Now that we have had a moment to digest the information, I wanted to recap some highlights:

  • =         The first day of school will be Monday, August 24, 2020
  • =         Reynoldsburg City Schools will begin school 100 percent remotely.
  • =         SEPARATELY from our online start, once we return to some type of face-to-face learning, those who do not want to return to school can enroll in the RCS Virtual Academy. To reserve your space, you must enroll by August 14, 2020 and commit to a semester of learning.

o    PLEASE NOTE: The Virtual Academy and learning online are two separate models. Every student will start online, and those who enrolled in the Virtual Academy will shift to that model when face-to-face learning begins.

o    If you DO NOT plan to send your child to school when face-to-face learning begins, you MUST enroll your child in the RCS Virtual Academy by August 14, 2020.

  • =      We are hosting two parent webinars with Edgenuity, our Virtual Academy partner this week. Follow these steps to register:

o    Click on the date you wish to attend

o    Click on “I am not the host, join meeting as attendee”

§ PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT click on the blue “Sign in” button on the screen, you must click “I am not the host, join meeting as attendee”

o    Complete the registration form

o    Click “Register”

§ You will then receive an email confirming your registration and can add it to your calendar

o    HELPFUL HINT: Try to register from a computer. If you register from a phone, the link takes you directly to Zoom and tries to open the meeting. If you cannot register from a computer, we will send the password to the meeting when it gets closer.

o    We will send a questionnaire form to collect common questions NOT addressed in the Virtual Academy Guide which we will answer on the webinars.

o    You will be able to watch recordings of the webinar if you are unable to join.

We know that there is a lot of information and it is changing at a rapid pace. Please take the time to read the communications we send, carefully, as many of the questions asked are answered in a communication we have sent out.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. This is a confusing, uncertain time with many questions. We will get through this, together. Stay safe and healthy.

RCS to Begin 2020-21 School Year 100% Remotely

July 30, 2020

Dear Reynoldsburg City Schools Staff and Families,

In our most recent conversations with Franklin County Public Health and Columbus Public Health, we received updated COVID-19 information.  Due to the positivity rates, case counts and trend lines show that it is not conducive to return to school in an “all in” or “hybrid” model, FCPH recommends that all schools in Franklin County begin school by operating remotely. Therefore, Reynoldsburg City Schools will start the 2020-21 academic school year in a 100 percent “all digital” remote learning model.

We will continue to work with Franklin County Public Health and Columbus Public Health to reassess and monitor the pandemic and we will continue to seek guidance from Governor DeWine’s office. In the meantime, our 100 percent “all digital” remote learning model will follow our Responsible Restart Plan that we shared last week. The plan includes:

  • =         Online instruction with RCS teachers and staff five days a week
  • =         Abiding by USDA standards, Breakfast and Lunch grab and go will be available at select buildings and distributed according to each student’s meal plan. To apply for free and reduced lunch, or update your meal plan, click here:
  • =         No visitors or volunteers
  • =         There may be some opportunity for some or all athletic competitions and activities.  We are awaiting additional guidance from FCPH and OHSAA.

o    For us, athletics will remain in Phase 1 of Responsible Restart Ohio indefinitely which includes Football, Soccer, Tennis, and Cross Country

o    Only Girls’ Volleyball will have indoor use of facilities

  • =         Extracurricular activities will take place depending on guidance and/or Phases of Responsible Restart Ohio
  • =         Attendance taken during video conference sessions
  • =         An updated 2020-21 academic calendar with school starting Monday, August 24, 2020. You can find the updated calendar on under “COVID19 Updates” and “Calendars and Announcements”.

The RCS Center for Deeper Learning will provide guidance to parents, staff, and students prior to the start of the school year that outlines specific information related to academics and instruction in this 100 percent “all digital” remote model. All students and staff will work/learn using our common learning management systems, Google Classroom and/or Echo. The instructional content will be created by classroom teachers, and in this platform, students can access a variety of programs, videos, lessons, templates, assignments, virtual tutorials, and other tools to support their work.

We are hopeful that we will return to face-to-face instruction at some time during the school year. However, we also understand that you may not comfortable sending your child(ren) to school. If our model changes to the “all in” or the “hybrid” model during the year, you can reserve your space in the RCS Virtual Academy. Enrollment is open August 3-14, 2020. The RCS Virtual Academy will only operate if we are in an “all in” or “hybrid” model, but your space will be reserved. Information about the RCS Virtual Academy, as well as links to enroll, will be sent shortly.

The COVID19 pandemic requires us to remain fluid and flexible in this ever-changing environment. We are incredibly disappointed that we will not be able to welcome our students back in person to school on Monday, August 24, 2020.  Our goal is to keep our staff and students as safe and healthy as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please stay healthy and be well.
