Library Cards
If you don’t have a Library card for the Columbus Metropolitain Library, Ms. Morrison would be happy to get one for you. All you have to do is to fill out one of the Library card applications available in our HAMS Library, fill it out and have a parent or guardian sign it. Then just return it to Ms. Morrison. Your card will be delivered to you at school.

One reason you may want to get a Library card it so that you can use Overdrive. Overdrive is a free app that will enable you to check out and download e-books and audio books directly to your device (phone, ipod, tablet, ipad, PC etc.). However, to checkout digital materials you must have a Public Library card. This is a really great tool because you will never be charged with a lost or damaged book because it returns itself on the due date. If you need help with Overdrive you can see Ms. Morrison or go to the Public Library for assistance.

Teen Books
Our School Library now has a new genre of books for teen students to check out. Teen books are available for 7th and 8th grade students only. These books will be marked on the spine and barcode so you can easily find them and are in their own section of the Library in the front by the windows.

Divergent was released on April 25, 2011. Veronica says that the idea for the trilogy was started while she was in college. Summit Entertainment bought the rights to the book. Around May 2013 they started filming the film that is also named Divergent. The second book to the trilogy was released on May 1, 2012 and is titled Insurgent. The third and final book, Allegiant, was released on Oct. 22, 2013.

Divergent is about a teenage girl, Beatrice Prior with special abilities and finds her life in danger when a leader of a society faction tries to completely kill her kind, Divergent, to make an effort to control their divided society. Her society is divided into 5 factions, each dedicated to a special focus on a particular virtue. These 5 factions are Candor that is the honest, Abnegation that is the selfless, Dauntless that is the brave, Amity that is the peaceful and the Erudite that is the intelligent. On a day of every year, all teenagers that are 16 must pick a faction to spend the rest of their lives in. During the initiation, Beatrice renames herself Tris. While she is there, Tris tries to find out who her friends really are and is mixed up in a romance. She discovers a growing conflict that threatens to ruin her society. Tris also has a secret she has to keep hidden or it means she ends up dead. She also learns that her secret can save the ones she loves or just might destroy her.

I have read the book Divergent and I can’t even put into words how amazing it is. It is filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, mouth-dropping consequences, and unexpected romance. It is a must read. It will have you aching to get to the next word, then that word becomes a page, to a chapter, to a book, then asking the world why the trilogy had to end. If you have not read it yet, than I suggest you go to your local or school library and get a copy. I am 100% sure if you do not read it you will regret it, it is the best book I have read in my life so far, it will have you hanging to your seat.

DIVERGENT: Book & Movie

By Kahdija C.

DIVERGENT (the book) is the first novel to the best-selling trilogy by Veronica Roth. The novel has been compared to similar books like the Hunger Games because of the theme and the audience it’s trying to attract. I personally think that Divergent is a better book on so many levels. It is Science Fiction/Dystopian.
