Giving Back to Reynoldsburg: Alum David Hogan Launches New Scholarship
David Hogan graduated from Reynoldsburg High School in 1977. Now, he wants to give back to the community where he grew up.
After high school, Hogan earned degrees from The Ohio State University and the University of Dayton. He went on to work as a Chief Information Officer, managing technology departments for global companies.
When Hogan looks back at his time at RHS, his favorite memories are the lifelong friendships he made. He believes high school is a critical time to prepare for the future. His biggest advice for students:
- Treat education as an investment in yourself
- Choose friends wisely: “You become the average of the people you spend the most time with. Show me somebody’s friends… and I can tell them their future.”
- Avoid procrastination: “If you don’t do it right the first time… how are you going to find time to do it right the second time.”
- Start saving money early: “If you invest $1000 in an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) when you are 18 years old, it will be worth over $100,000 when you are 65 years old. Think about what that would become if you did that every year!”
Hogan has now created a scholarship to help current students afford college and reach their goals.
Scholarship Information
High school students are often stretched thin and forced to balance many competing interests and responsibilities.
From the many social expectations to athletic involvement to extracurricular experiences, high school can be a busy time. Many students also have to manage their time with the additional commitments of part-time work, volunteering hours, or family obligations. When navigating so many commitments, it can feel difficult to plan for one’s future.
This scholarship aims to support college-bound students as they prepare to complete their high school journeys.
Any high school senior (Class of 2027) with at least a 3.0 GPA at Reynoldsburg High School in Ohio may apply for this scholarship opportunity. Student-athletes who are involved with Boys or Girls Track or Cross Country teams are preferred.
