Nailed It: RCS Maintenance Preps Schools for Students

Blake Noecker, Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Buildings & Grounds Supervisor, sits back and watches as his team talks, laughs and eats during an appreciation barbeque he threw with the help of his wife.

“My team has worked so hard this summer, this is my way of saying thank you,” he said. “From moving offices to painting buildings to fulfilling maintenance work orders, it’s been a very busy few months.

This lunch also provided District staff with a behind-the-scenes look at the maintenance department. Located in the Hannah Ashton Middle School building, Blake’s team has set up a warehouse for furniture, paint, electrical supplies, plumbing supplies, surplus items, and more.

“We’ve had more than 300 work orders this summer,” Blake said. “We handle about 40-80 a week.”

The result of that hard work is clean rooms, fresh paint, and waxed floors, just to name a few things that our students and staff will see when they return to school later in August.

“I love my job,” said Taaz, head custodian at Waggoner Road Junior High School. “I’m looking forward to seeing the kids and how they’ve changed over the summer.” She shared a few pieces of advice for our students: listen to your teachers, really try to do your best and pay attention.

Our maintenance staff knows our buildings inside and out. Perry went to school at Herbert Mills, then Hannah Ashton and STEM Middle at Baldwin Road, and then RHS’ Livingston Campus. “Having been a student in these buildings means I know them really well,” he said. I can point out rooms where I’ve interacted with teachers, even some areas where I got into a little trouble,” he jokes.

“Listen to your teachers!” Perry said.
