Orchestra Outing: Students See 'Black Violin' Thanks to Donation
Stage at 'Black Violin' Field Trip

It’s a tale as old as time. Two students meet in their high school orchestra class, become best buds and form Black Violin, a Grammy-nominated duo that blends classical music with hip-hop beats. Thanks to an anonymous donor, the 91 students in our Beginner Orchestra classes at Waggoner Road Junior High School and STEM Middle at Baldwin Road were able to take a field trip to the Palace Theater to watch a matinee performance.

Our students sang, danced and screamed during the performance (all of which was encouraged by Black Violin!). “Find something that you love, find a way to make it unique and go change the world,” Kev Marcus, one-half of the group, told the students in the crowd.

Many of our students had never been to the Palace Theater or seen a concert. We are so grateful to the donor who made this experience possible.
