School Feature: Slate Ridge Elementary School

Slate Ridge Elementary School is home to approximately 500 students in grades K through 5. Its size allows staff to develop strong, meaningful relationships with students while still offering a wide range of academic and extracurricular opportunities.

The school stands out through a dual focus on academic growth and character development. Using the RISE framework, educators intentionally teach respect, integrity, self-control, and engagement to help students become successful learners and positive members of the community. The staff at SRES is deeply committed to using data to meet individual student needs.

Students and families can take advantage of the school’s special events. The Literacy Family Festival and International Festival are favorites. Families connect with staff while celebrating their building’s diversity and learning about the importance of literacy and reading. Other gatherings such as Trunk or Treat and family engagement nights provide additional opportunities for connection throughout the school year.

Students have access to a variety of resources designed to meet them at their current level of need. Support includes targeted academic interventions, small group instruction, and after-school tutoring. The school counselor supports the students’ social-emotional needs. In addition, SRES offers enrichment opportunities and collaborates with community resources when needed to support its families.

Keeping families informed is a priority for Slate Ridge. The school maintains a weekly newsletter, frequent email updates and has an active presence on social media and the school website. Teachers also reach out directly to share progress reports and celebrate student achievements. The aim is to keep families informed, involved and connected to what’s happening at school.
