Transportation Spotlight: Sandy T. Goes the Extra Mile
"I am the first person the kids see in the morning, and the last one they see before they get home," Sandy T, a RCS bus driver tells us. We managed to catch Sandy during a quick break between routes and she told us what she loves about being a bus driver for the District.
"I love my kids, I love my route," she said. "I drive the RHS Summit Campus, Liberty Christian and Summit Road STEM Elementary Routes. I work with our diverse learners and children with disabilities, and I love it."
Sandy has been a bus driver for RCS for 10 years. The bus compound where she was driving was closing, so the Transportation Director at the time called and asked her to come drive for us. "If you think you might want to be a bus driver, do it," Sandy says. "I was talking to a retired gentleman the other day and he was saying he wanted to do something to keep busy and he said being a bus driver sounded perfect. And trust me, we are hiring!"
In her "spare" time, Sandy is also a nail technician. "I go from the bus garage to the shop, back to the bus garage and back to the shop," she said. "I also have 16 home clients and six grandkids, so I am always busy."
Getting her CDL "was tough," she said, because she was married and trying to raise a family, but once she was trained, the rest was a breeze.
Thank you Sandy, for going the extra mile for our students!
