Two RCS Elementary Schools Receive Challenge Coins for Supporting Military Communities

The French Run Firebirds and the Summit Road STEM Elementary STEM-bots welcomed representatives from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) Purple Star Advisory Board to accept challenge coins for their commitment and support to our military communities. 

The MIC3 Challenge Coin is a commemorative award given by the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3) and symbolizes the schools’ commitment to easing the educational transition for military families.

French Run became the District's first Purple Star School in 2024. During the presentation, Principal Rodney Fetty acknowledged students and staff who have family members (or themselves) currently or retired from military duty.

Summit Road STEM Elementary was designated a Purple Star school in this year’s Class of 2025 inductees. Ms. Amy Gochenour and members of Summit Road STEM Elementary’s Military Committee work to help transition students who are experiencing a family member who is deployed or a veteran.

At French Run, Nora, a second-grade student whose father is active in the military, received the challenge coin for her school. Third grader Nathan and his father, Michael, accepted the challenge coin for Summit Road STEM Elementary. We are #REYNProud of our staff and students who support their communities!
