Earlier this year, Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Jocelyn Cosgrave, unveiled the new Center for Deeper Learning during an all-staff professional development event. The Center for Deeper Learning will officially open during the 2020-21 school year.

The Center for Deeper Learning combines several departments within the District’s structure including the Office of Innovation, Instructional Coaches and Educational Technology. The new department has a branded logo, and will oversee the District’s Innovation Grants, maker spaces, teaching, learning practices as well as principal and teacher professional development and support.

The Center for Deeper Learning will realign into three areas: Deeper Learning Coordinators, Deeper Learning Coaches and Curriculum Support:

The Deeper Learning Coordinators will oversee aspects of teaching and learning that are impacted by a shift to deeper learning practices by all teachers and principals in support of all students. RCS’ Deeper Learning Coordinators are:

Deeper Learning Coordinators:

Elementary Coordinator- Mary Ellen Weeks

Secondary Coordinator- Chris Brooks

K-12 Coordinator- Thomie Timmons

The Deeper Learning Coaches will assist teachers in implementing deeper learning practices as a part of instruction each day. RCS’ Deeper Learning Coaches are:

Mia Brower

Nick Twyman

Lisa Floyd-Jefferson

Curriculum Support personnel will support the logistics, data, and documents that guide work of the Center for Deeper Learning and that help us to measure the outcomes set forth in the District Strategic Plan. RCS’ Curriculum Support personnel are:

Curriculum Support:

“The re-organization of staff under the Center for Deeper Learning is a much-needed shift for purposes of efficiency and utility. We want to make sure we are modeling what we would hope for our teachers and students—a collaborative model and integrated approach to teaching, learning, innovation, and technology. These shifts are fiscally responsible and capitalize on the strengths of our team,” said RCS Chief Academic Officer Dr. Jocelyn Cosgrave.

The Center for Deeper Learning will use the maker spaces that already exist at school sites to enrich the educational opportunities afforded to students through innovative approaches to teaching and learning. In the next three years, all staff will be trained on project or problem-based learning, which will be used as the primary mode of instruction in all schools, and the aforementioned shifts will support those efforts.
