It was a very happy birthday for 8-year-old Harmony, a second-grade student at Slate Ridge Elementary School (SRES), when she was told her name was drawn in the 50/50 raffle at Christmas on the Town.
The raffle, sponsored by the Reynoldsburg Education Foundation (REF), is an annual event where the non-profit raffles off a $500 prize package which includes $250 for the raffle winner and $250 for a Reynoldsburg City School District school of their choice. Harmony was excited to hear her birthday news. She spoke with her mother, Jessica, and decided to donate her portion of the winnings to her school. Slate Ridge Elementary will use the $500 total to support the school's character education program.
“I thought about keeping the money, but decided to donate it,” said Harmony.
“We want to congratulate Harmony for winning, but also thank her for her generosity,” said SRES Principal, Dr. Parlar. “We are so proud of our students who are creating such a kind environment for our school.”
The REF is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower Reynoldsburg City School students and educators by enhancing and enriching educational opportunities through charitable donations, community engagement, and support that develops and nurtures the whole child. To date, the REF has funded teacher mini-grants and student scholarships totaling over $27,000.
We are #REYNProud of you, Harmony!
