If you’re looking for a snack, slushie or t-shirt, you can pick one up at Rocky’s Corner, the RHS’ Livingston Campus student-run shop. As a part of the Business Pathway more than 60 juniors and seniors manage Rocky’s Corner where students and staff can purchase anything from cookies to keychains, from stickers to water bottles.

Mr. Paparella, Business Teacher and DECA Advisor explained that DECA is a Business Club, where students attend a bimonthly meeting and run Rocky’s Corner to learn about managing a business. The Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) program prepares students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and more. This is the second year Rocky’s Corner has been in business.
Rocky’s Corner is open Monday through Friday and the students use the money earned to reinvest in products, create new ideas and celebrate students. This year, they are hoping to set up a scholarship fund for seniors.
Seniors Braeden and Brandi are using their experience at Rocky’s Corner to learn customer experience, network and how to make financial transactions.
Austin, a fellow senior and DECA Chapter President explains that the club has four focus areas: community service, advocacy, promotion and advertising. There are tasks they must complete during the year. This year, the students are writing letters to the residents of Wesley Ridge, a local retirement community.
“DECA and Rocky’s Corner are helping me learn the business side of life,” said Austin. “Especially business ethics and separating right from wrong. Money management is something that I’ll need no matter what path I take in life.”
“DECA is a community,” he continued. “We attend competitions where we are given a business scenario and we have to come up with a solution. It brings people together and if you’re in the Business Pathway, it’s a great space where everyone supports each other.”
