Did you know that the video game market is worth an estimated $282 billion, supported by nearly 3.32 billion active video game players worldwide?
As this industry grows, new opportunities arise within the field, including professional players. The United States has over 3,700 active esports players, some even earning scholarships to play during college or university. Reynoldsburg High School is already working to support students in this field, and with great success.
The RHS esports teams are formed according to game interest, grade and skill level. In the past five seasons, teams have played Overwatch, Fortnite, Super Smash Bros. and more!
During their very first season, the Varsity Overwatch Team won the state tournament hosted by the University of Akron. Teams almost always make the playoffs, earning credibility and further interest from students. Coaches Chase Harman, Trey Adams and Edward Stoll note that they are now looking into developing a middle school/junior level pipeline to support and further develop this interest.
