Dear Reynoldsburg Raiders,

In 1946, the cost of a gallon of gas was 21 cents, it only cost .03 to send a letter, the average US family income was $2,600.00 per year, and the Chicago Bears faced off against the New York Giants in the NFL Championship Game at the Polo Grounds in New York City.

Also in 1946, your Reynoldsburg Raiders took to the field against Pataskala High in the first-ever home high school football game for the team. Mr. Frank Howe and Mr. Evan E. Evans coached 34 players, and unfortunately the score did not end up in our favor as Pataskala won 28-0.

The teams might be different, but our football program has been a force to be reckoned with for all of those 75 years since. This season is dedicated to those 34 players, the original Reynoldsburg Raiders who stormed a path for football players of generations to come to play for Reynoldsburg High School.

Football is not just about winning. It is about grit, determination, discipline, teamwork, camaraderie and many other life skills that our players develop and learn during their time on the team. Many of our players have gone on to full scholarships at Division I colleges and universities. Some of our players joined the military or delved head first into their careers after graduating. But the friendships and lessons they took from the field never left them.

No matter how the season ends, I am proud to be on the sidelines, encouraging our players not only on the field, but in their classes too. The support from their teachers, the RCS staff, their parents and families as well as Coach White and the RHS Football Staff, doesn’t end when the clock counts down to zero.

I am so honored to have #40 Melvin Babbert, #41 Jack Friedlander and #32 Ray Karnes in the audience for the commemorative game on September 17th when we play Olentangy. Welcome home, gentlemen. Thank you for being #REYNProud.

Good luck to all of our players during this historic season. Here’s to another 75 years of RHS Football!

Sincerely,
