Rock Star Teachers
Our teachers work tirelessly for our students. To highlight those who exemplify the competencies outlined in our Portrait of an Educator, teachers are nominated by their peers as “Rock Star Teachers.”

Here are the rock stars making a difference in the classroom and the community, and a quote from their nomination:

Erin Betsko – Hannah J. Ashton Middle School
“[Erin] is constantly building relationships with students and creating an environment where they feel safe and accepted. She is always making our building a more beautiful place, and is always stepping in to help.”

Mallory Broehm – French Run Elementary
“Mrs. Broehm has been a leader in our building this year. She is a model for collaboration between general education teachers and intervention specialists. She has adopted project-based learning with enthusiasm and creativity.”

Brianna Butler – Reynoldsburg High School
“She creates an encouraging and engaging space in her classroom where students feel comfortable to learn, try, and even fail. [She] not only effectively prepares her students academically, but she also provides social and emotional competence through her carefully curated diverse curriculum, and as a personal exemplar. She is a ROCK STAR and her efforts every single day, with every single student show it!”

Cassidy Calkins - Reynoldsburg High School
“Ms. Calkins comes to school each day with her students in mind. She spends her year cultivating long lasting relationships and building student confidence in Physical Science that they carry on with them to the 10th grade. Ms. Calkins is the kind of teacher that is constantly changing and bettering how she is teaching so that it benefits her students or meets their needs.”

Cassie Comer – Summit Road STEM Elementary
“Cassie Comer is an amazing teacher. With just 4 years of experience, she is already leading committees and PD within the building. [She] works with her classroom to create a wonderful environment and culture. Students are taught to be independent, responsible, and self-sufficient through empowerment. They are respected and therefore respect their teacher.”

Zack Hribar – Waggoner Road Middle School
“Zack has gone through this year with a positive attitude. He has taken on a difficult caseload and persevered. He also took on four behavior students from other teams to support the students better. These students have thrived under his leadership and have shown growth. He took the time to adapt instruction to the students’ needs.”

Torey Parm - Hannah J. Ashton Middle School
“He is always starting our morning with joyful announcements, and encouraging our kids with his quotes and Black History Month biographies. He is always building me up as a teacher, and as a person. I am so thankful to have him on my team!”

Vanessa Rouker - Reynoldsburg High School
“As the staff advisor of our campus [Gay-Straight Alliance], Vanessa has consistently mentored our LGBTQIA+ community of students. Vanessa holds high expectations for students, and through GSA and the course Restorative Practices, students are learning to confront their own biases and that genuine respect for all groups of individuals should be of the highest priority.”
