Mirrors by Justin Timberlake

Mirrors’ is a song by Justin Timberlake that was recorded for his third album ‘The 20/20 Experience’. It was released on February and was his 2nd single. ’Mirrors’ is a pop song. The song is about a young person in love after breaking up. The song received positive reviews and got complimented on its production and lyrics. It hit number 7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 in the U.K. It was written by Justin himself and Timothy Mosley, Jerome Harmon, and James Fauntleroy. The full version is over eight minutes long and Justin wrote the first half in 2009 but didn’t finish it.  He later wrote the remaining 4 minutes as he was working on the ’20/20 Experience’ album.  The shorter version is posted above for you to enjoy.

In my opinion I think that the song was great and is on one of my many favorites. He sounded smooth and it was just as mythic as ‘Suit & Tie’. The video is also very good. The song and video of ‘Mirror’ is the most artistic that Justin has ever done in my opinion, including ‘Suit & Tie’. The song ‘Mirror’ is full of meaning and if you don’t listen closely then you can miss something, it’s kind of like the saying ‘’ if you blink, you will miss it’’. So to me, I think that it is about time that you give JT your undivided attention, because ‘Mirrors’ was just downright terrific.

Royals by Lorde

A girl named Ella O’Connor (aka Lorde) was born November 7th 1996 in Auckland, New Zealand. At the age of 5, she joined a drama club and discovered a love of singing. She loved to read so she started writing songs at 13. When she started writing more songs, Scott Maclachlan signed her to Universal and she started working with their songwriters, and that’s how she started her music career.

Ella O’Connor’s first album, “Pure Heroine” came out September 27th, 2013. Her first single “Royals”, is a pop song and became a hit after it was released. It hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and the New Zealand Top 40. The song is about how Ella doesn’t care about money and she’s fine with what she has, she doesn’t need money to be happy. I think Lorde has a smooth voice that’s really unique, and “Royals” is one of my favorite songs. The song was written by Lorde and Joel Little. Out of all, the song is really meaningful and if you have a chance go check it out in the link above, trust me you will not regret it!

Counting Stars by One Republic

By: Bailey S.

Counting Stars by One Republic is currently number 6, on the iTunes Chart.  The song came out on June 14th, 2013.

The band One Republic formed in 2003, after they achieved success from a MySpace commercial as an unsigned act.  In the same year, actress Kelly Barrett discovered the band and signed to Song BMG, for three years before going to Mosley Music Group. They released their debut album, Dreaming Out Loud. In 2007, the album was later certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The lead singer of the band is Ryan Tedder.  He met future band mate Zach Filkins on their soccer team at the Colorado Springs Christian School.  He is 34 and claims that when he was younger he sang for two hours every day.

Counting Stars has a deeper meaning then the name. The song is about a couple having money issues. "This is about my struggle to pursue music fulltime.  I got married relatively young so now I'm supporting somebody else and I used to sit around thinking about I can't wait till I'm not counting every single penny.   I want be just chilling, counting stars." said Ryan when he appeared on The Voice.  “Everything that kills me makes me feel alive.” This refers to taking risks that make you feel alive rather than holding back and not trying something new. The whole song is about one day not worrying about things, and just relaxing.
