College and Career Center Opens at High School

The library at Reynoldsburg High School's East Livingston Avenue campus is now home to a new College and Career Center where students can find information about colleges, scholarships, financial assistance, test preparation and career guidance.

And thanks to the district's relationship with Columbus State Community College, those resources are also available to the community, according to Nana Oppong, one of several AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America members who have committed to a year of service with Reynoldsburg schools.

She said students can obtain informational fliers, handouts, pennants and other "college swag" at the center as they begin their search for college and career information.

Reynoldsburg Mayor Brad McCloud helped to open the new College and Career Center April 1. The event coincided with the Mayor's Day of Recognition for National Service, when mayors all over the country recognize and support service projects.

Oppong said a number of local businesses and organizations donated and contributed resources to the new College and Career Center.

"Both the military and the fire department have also been wonderful partners who have provided information about their respective career paths," she said.

She said the college center will be primarily run by AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer Teague Schoessow.
