Summit Elementary: Winter Weather Updates/Procedures

With the severe cold and winter weather upon us, there are often questions about the district's decision to either delay or close Reynoldsburg City Schools. Whenever possible, the decision to close school will be made the previous evening. However, closings may be announced as late as 6:00 a.m. depending on a variety of factors.

When Reynoldsburg City Schools CLOSE:
* All evening activities at our school will be cancelled.
* Community groups scheduled to use school facilities (e.g., Parks & Rec, Scouts, etc.) will have their events cancelled.

When Reynoldsburg City Schools DELAY (2-hour):
* AM kindergaten is cancelled.
* Students in grades 1-4 will start their day at 10:05 a.m. Please note that bus pick-up times will be delayed by two hours as well.
* PM kindergarten will institue the Plan B (30 minute delay). This means their start time will be at 12:15 p.m. This delay will allow safe transportation during inclement weather. Please note that bus pick-up will be delayed 30 minutes too.

Absence Notes Needed Upon Return

When a student is absent or tardy:
1. Parents are asked to notify the school office #614-501-5530 or by email at [email protected] by 8:20 a.m. if their child will be absent or tardy.
2. A written note must also be sent to school with the child within three (3) days of his/her return to school or the absence will remain unexcused.

If a child must leave school early we request that a note be given on or before the day that the student is to be dismissed. When picking up a child the parent must report to the office with their identification and the child will then be called to the office. More details available by clicking on the "Read More" on the right corner of this article.

Outdoor Recess During Winter Months

Please plan accordingly as we might be going outside for recess. Our current practice is to go out if the temperature is at least 32 degrees. However, due to strong winds experienced at Summit, the wind chill often makes it impossible to take the students out.
