From Our Principal
Dear Encore Academy Families,
I hope you are
enjoying a wonderful summer. I also hope you are relaxed, recharged and ready
to start a new school year. I am delighted that you are part of the Encore
Academy learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and
dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you
and your children.
Each year brings positive change. This includes a few additions to our
staff. We are delighted to welcome six new staff members to our academy. Encore
Academy families please welcome the following teachers:
Benjamin DeVictor – ELA Teacher
Kaitlyn McCawley – Science Teacher
Elizabeth Dexter – Math Teacher
Krista Vaulker – Math Teacher
Denise Yorde – Intervention Specialist (Math Foundations)
Courtney Wells – Interventions Specialist (ELA Foundations)
Brandon Twiss – Health/Physical Education
Block Schedule - Our school start and end times will remain the same – 7:25 AM to 1:55 PM. However, we are moving to a block scheduled day. Classes will now be a little over an hour and half long, allowing for more problem/project-based learning, presentations, and overall more instructional time. Some courses will be on an alternate A/B day schedule allowing for more year-long courses. Students will also have options for semester long classes. This will be an adjustment for most and although some are familiar with teaching in a block schedule, we cannot predict the obstacles we may face with this transition. I ask for your patience and understanding when we come upon some unfamiliar territory during this transition. With improved student growth and learning at the center of this movement, we will be purposeful in providing any all support to our students, staff and parents to help make this transition as smooth as possible.
Preschool – Preschool classes
have been added to the Summit Campus building this year. The preschool
classes will be located at the far end of the building by the eSTEM office. We
are looking forward to welcoming these students and families into the building.
The preschool area is off-limits to high school students. However, we are
looking forward to fostering a relationship with the preschool team that would
allow for some unique partnership opportunities for our students.
Health/Physical Education – We have added a Health/PE teacher to the building this year. I am thrilled that we can finally offer Health/PE face to face and begin to reduce the number of students that have to take it online. We know we won't be able to get every single student face to face Health/PE, but this should significantly decrease the number of students taking it online!
Enrichment or Intervention Classes
(E/I) – With the exception of those students assigned to a music class and those 11th and 12th graders who have late arrival
privileges, ALL students will be
required to take an enrichment class or an intervention class from 7:25-8:16
AM. Students who need some additional support, based upon their Ohio Graduation
Test scores, will be assigned to an Intervention class. Students will have an
opportunity to visit the Enrichment classes on August 20th and 21st before
making their choice on which class they will attend. Their specific
enrichment class will then begin on August 22nd.
Once again, welcome back! Looking forward to another exciting school
Proud to serve as your Principal,
Tonya M. Bailey
