The goals of our guidance program are to help students develop socially, emotionally and academically and to maintain the safe and positive climate of our school. Research shows that social-emotional learning helps students achieve academically and improves positive behavior of students.

Role of Taylor Road Elementary School Counselor
School support professionals provide direct and indirect services to students, parents, school staff and the community in the following areas:
School counseling core curriculum: This curriculum consists of structured lessons designed to help students attain the desired competencies and to provide all students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills appropriate for their developmental level. The school counseling core curriculum is delivered throughout the school’s overall curriculum and is systematically presented by school counselors in collaboration with other professional educators in K-12 classroom and group activities
Classroom Guidance Lessons -
Unit 1: Skills for Learning
Unit 2: Empathy
Unit 3: Emotion Management
Unit 4: Problem Solving
Unit 5: Bully Prevention
Small Groups - These groups meet for 6 - 8 weeks on specific topics such as friendship, confidence, anxiety, divorce, grief, and self-control.
Individual Counseling - Students may meet with me individually to discuss concerns. Referrals may be made to outside counseling for ongoing or family concerns.

Response to Intervention (RtI) Coordination: When data indicates a student needs extra support with academics or behavior, an RtI meeting is scheduled.
Character Council Co-Advisor - The 4th grade Character Council works to serve our school and community by completing various service projects and serve as role models for the rest of the student body.
Tornado Aides - 4th grade School Counseling Office helpers.
Lunch Bunch- Students are invited to have lunch with the School Counselor.
