A Spring Break Message from Superintendent Dr. Tracy R. Reed

Thursday, March 20, 2025

Dear Reynoldsburg City Schools Families, Staff, Students, and Community Members,

As we embark on a well-deserved Spring Break, I want to reflect on the remarkable achievements and exciting events that have filled our District in recent weeks.

Our students continue to excel both academically and athletically. We've seen impressive results in Mock Trial, OSLN Design Challenges, scholarship awards, and more. Our Winter Sports teams saw success, with many teams and individuals making it to the finals. Congratulations to all our students and coaches for their hard work and commitment!

We are also eagerly anticipating the upcoming performance of "Little Shop of Horrors" by our talented RHS Drama Club. The cast and crew have been working tirelessly, and I encourage everyone to come out and support them for what promises to be a fantastic show. You can see a performance on March 21-22, 2025, at RHS’ Livingston Campus. You can find showtimes and tickets here: rhsdc.ludus.com

The recent State of the Schools address was a tremendous success, and I was incredibly impressed by the engagement and enthusiasm of our community. The turnout was exceptional, and I appreciate everyone who took the time to attend. I want to thank all of the students who came out to be greeters, provide entertainment, and more. A special thank you to our student speakers, Pratima, Rutendo, and Alaina, who shared their insightful perspectives and experiences. Their voices are a testament to the bright future of our District. We were also honored to have our esteemed alumni, Tyler Parker ‘15 and Kevin Gray ‘10, recognized for the #REYNProud Legacy Alumni Award. Their presence reinforced the enduring legacy of our District.

As we head into Spring Break, I wish you all a safe and happy time filled with rest and rejuvenation. Please take this opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends.

Upon our return, we will be gearing up for a busy and exciting end to the school year, culminating in our graduation ceremonies. We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our graduating seniors and finishing the year strong.

Thank you for your continued support of our schools and students.

Sincerely,

Remote Learning, Two-Hour Delays and Calamity Days
January 21, 2025

As of today, we utilized three calamity days due to inclement weather. As a result, we have two calamity days left for the remainder of the school year. While we will use our very limited number of calamity days in the event of severe weather, we need to remain flexible to ensure our students have the appropriate hours of instruction. This includes implementing two-hour delays and remote learning days.

Below is information regarding two-hour delays, calamity, and remote learning days.

Two-hour Delays:

If RCS implements a two-hour delay, the schedule will be pushed back by two hours, with the school day ending at the regularly scheduled time.

  • Preschool is canceled

  • Busing to Eastland-Fairfield Career and Technical Center is canceled

Calamity Days:
A calamity day is defined as: a school closure determined by the Superintendent for inclement weather. A calamity day is considered a non-instructional day.

  • We will still utilize our very limited number of calamity days in the event of severe weather on a case-by-case basis.

  • RCS’ Central Office will remain open during calamity days unless otherwise noted.

  • Calamity days will be communicated via: phone calls, emails, text messages, reyn.org, social media, television and radio announcements.

Remote Learning Days:
Remote Learning is defined as: a form of distance learning where instruction and content are delivered primarily via the internet.

Remote learning will occur when there is inclement weather but not deemed a calamity day. Unless we declare a calamity day, buildings will remain open.

  • Prior to the District implementing a remote learning day, building principals will communicate with teachers to ensure students are prepared (sending home devices, workbooks, etc.)

  • Transportation for private and parochial schools will not take place.

  • RCS’ Central Office will remain open during remote learning.

  • Remote learning days will be communicated via: phone calls, emails, text messages, reyn.org, social media, television and radio announcements.

  • Please see the guidance below for student expectations for online learning days.

2024 Winter Weather and Calamity Day Information

Dear Reynoldsburg City Schools Staff and Families,

We are fast approaching the time of year when snow, ice, and extreme cold may disrupt our school schedule. We wanted to share information about what factors determine a “calamity day,” when school is canceled or delayed. We also wanted to share the various ways you will be notified of school closures.

Cold Weather Ahead

What is a Calamity Day?
A calamity day is a school closure determined by the Superintendent for inclement weather or other unavoidable event. A calamity day is considered a non-instructional day. RCS’s Central Office will remain open during calamity days unless otherwise noted.

Monitoring Weather Conditions:
We closely monitor the weather forecast for snow and extremely cold temperatures throughout the winter months. District staff also maintains communication with the local road crews and police and drive neighborhoods.

When assessing the safety of the morning commute, our focus is on school transportation. We consider factors such as the temperatures and wind chills, which may cause a frost-bite risk for children waiting 15-30 minutes at school bus stops (generally about -15 to -20 degrees wind chill).

Closures vs. Delays

Whenever possible, the decision to close or delay school will be made the previous evening. However, announcements may be made as late as 5:45 a.m., depending on a variety of factors.

When Reynoldsburg City Schools CLOSE:

  •  All evening activities in the elementary and middle school buildings are canceled.

  •  High school evening activities will be determined by District personnel based on relevant information.

  • Preschool is canceled.

  • Transportation to Eastland-Fairfield Career Center is not provided.

  • Community groups scheduled to use school facilities (e.g., Park and Rec, Scouts, etc.) will have their events canceled.

When the Reynoldsburg City Schools DELAY:

  • Morning preschool is canceled.

  • Eastland-Fairfield Career Center morning bus runs are canceled.

Communication Tools

When the decision to declare a calamity day is made, we use multiple methods to communicate. As technology is not always fool-proof, we rely on several messaging channels to alert the community of any schedule changes. Those channels include:

  • Notifying local television and radio stations

  • Posting on social media: Instagram (@ReynSchools) and Facebook (@reynschools)

  • Updating the website (www.reyn.org

  • Sending emails, texts, and phone calls to families

If you are unsure if the correct contact information is in our system so you can be notified, please call your school building’s secretary. In addition, check your email spam folders for emails that do not go to your inbox.

Sincerely,
