Early Entrance to Kindergarten

About Early Entrance to Kindergarten

Early Entrance to Kindergarten Applications are now closed for the 25-26 school year.
Early Entrance to Kindergarten Applications for the 25-26 school year will be available March 1, 2025 thru April 15, 2025.  All completed applications must be received by April 15, 2025 to be considered for the 25-26 school year.

Early entrance to kindergarten is a referral process used to evaluate students for enrollment into kindergarten when they do not meet the age requirement set by the District. Reynoldsburg City Schools policy dictates a child is eligible for entrance into kindergarten if s/he attains the age of five (5) on or before August 1st of the year in which s/he applies for entrance. The Board of Education may admit a younger child to kindergarten if the child satisfies the Board's early entrance criteria.

State of Ohio laws and Reynoldsburg policy require that a child entering Kindergarten be five years of age on or before August 1st.

Parents of children who will become five (5) years of age between August 2nd and before January 1st may request testing for early entrance to Kindergarten.

The techniques used by Reynoldsburg City Schools to evaluate a child’s readiness include tests designed to assess the degree of that child’s physical, intellectual, social, and emotional maturity.  Test scores alone will not determine the child’s readiness for school, but rather a clinical evaluation that measures the balance or imbalance of the child’s development and its relationship to his/her readiness for school.

Procedures for Early Entrance

  • This form will open for responses on March 1, 2025 and remain open until April 15, 2025.

  • If needed, a computer to submit the form online is available at the Welcome Center (1555 Graham Road) or at the Reynoldsburg Public Library.

  1. The official application form will be sent to the email address you list on the initial request form (step 1) within 2 weekdays of receiving the request.  The completed official application must be submitted online no later than April 15, 2025.

    • If needed, a computer to submit the official application form is available at the Welcome Center (1555 Graham Road) or at the Reynoldsburg Public Library.

  2. Recommendation forms will be sent to the email addresses (2) you list on the application form.  Recommendations should be filled out by an adult not related to the child such as preschool teacher, coach, pediatrician, etc.  Recommendation forms must be also received by April 15, 2025. Be sure to get the parent/guardian part of the application in early enough for recommenders to receive their form and submit it by the deadline.

  3. If completed forms are received by the deadline, the parents/guardians will be contacted to set up an appointment to have a cognitive test completed on the child.  The child must receive a 115 or higher to move on to the next step of the evaluation.

  4. If a child receives a 115 or higher on the cognitive assessment, another appointment will be set to do academic testing with the child.

  5. The building team, including the Principal, Grade-Appropriate Teacher, Gifted Services Coordinator, and parents shall meet to discuss the evaluation/testing results  and make recommendations. The recommendation for advanced placement shall be based upon:

    • Formal application and applicable checklists

    • Qualifying Test Scores

    • Recommendations

    • Evaluation information

    • Use of the Ohio Department of Education approved IOWA Acceleration Scales.

  6. If the team determines the child qualifies for Early Entrance to Kindergarten, a WAP (Written Acceleration Plan) will be developed for the child and the parent can enroll the child for kindergarten at the Welcome Center.

**Applications must be fully completed by the deadline, which includes 2 non-family recommendations, to be considered for the referral process.  Late applications will not be accepted.
